Based in the North East of England, John Dowson initially established Focus on the image as a creative escape from his demanding role running a successful software company.

"We are blessed with some of the most fantastic coastal scenery in the country and I hope that I have managed to convey some of that in my photographs".

As well as affording amazing locations itself, the North East of England is ideally situated for access to other areas of outstanding natural beauty and amazing light.
One of these, the West Coast of Scotland being another favourite location featured within our galleries.

John's interest in photography started at an early age, when his Dad was a very keen photographer. "I still have fond memories of 'helping' him print black and white photographs in our blacked out kitchen and being amazed as pictures magically appeared on the paper in the dishes of smelly chemicals".

His interest was rekindled when digital cameras became good enough to rival the quality of traditional film, but with the added advantage of instant results and much more convenient processing - though he may argue that the amount of time spent in front of the computer screen can be frustrating !!
